Hotel City Centre
Neighbourhood · Monti, Esquilino, Pincio, Circus Maximus
Palaces, rooftops and hotels within walking distance of the Colosseum and the Spanish Steps. The most atmospheric choice, and the hardest to drive into.
Rome's historic centre offers the most theatrical New Year's Eve: a noble palazzo, hotels between Termini and the Circus Maximus, Casina Valadier inside Villa Borghese, clubs between Trevi and Flaminio, a restaurant-club near Termini and a venue at Porta Ardeatina. Heaven's gala dinner costs €99, and the Circus Maximus concert is within walking distance.

Palazzo Brancaccio, on Via Merulana, hosts an exclusive gala dinner in its frescoed salons (€350). The DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti, on Piazza dell'Esquilino, offers a gala dinner at €140 and an after-dinner party on the rooftop overlooking the city's roofs (€175), 400 metres from Termini station. The Boscolo Circo Massimo, on Via dei Cerchi, is the hotel facing the Circus Maximus, where the City of Rome stages its big free New Year's Eve concert: gala dinners with live music, on request. Casina Valadier, on the Pincio inside Villa Borghese, is an elegant setting: a buffet dinner, served dinners and a panoramic rooftop, with a DJ set party, on request. Opus Club, in Flaminio, combines a served dinner (€170) with a party that runs late into the night.
The centre has more to offer. Heaven, on Viale di Porta Ardeatina towards Piramide, has gala dinners at €99 and €119, with party tickets at €39 at 23:00 and €25 from 00:15. Target Restaurant, on Via Torino between Repubblica and Termini, serves New Year's Eve dinner at €110 and €135. Toy Room is on Via degli Avignonesi, between Trevi and Barberini: dinner costs €160 and €190, the party ticket €50. Heaven and Toy Room also sell party-only entry, without dinner.
The centre's ZTL (a limited-traffic zone closed to non-resident cars) is active on New Year's Eve too, so it is best to arrive by metro (Termini and Cavour for the DoubleTree and Palazzo Brancaccio, Circo Massimo for the Boscolo, Flaminio for Casina Valadier) or by taxi. Piazza del Popolo, the Circus Maximus and the surrounding streets are closed to traffic for the open-air events. To get home after 4am you will need a pre-booked taxi or a private car with driver (NCC).
If you want to be close to the centre but with parking and less traffic, look at Rome North, where the Eden Experience at the Stadio Olimpico and Profumo are ten minutes from Flaminio.
Questions
Palazzo Brancaccio (gala dinner €350), DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti (€140, or €175 for the rooftop package), Boscolo Circo Massimo and Casina Valadier on request, and Opus Club in Flaminio (dinner €170, party ticket €50).
The ZTL (the restricted traffic zone, open only to authorised vehicles) stays in force, and several streets around Piazza del Popolo and the Circus Maximus are closed for the events. The metro or a taxi is a better bet; the hotels have an arrangement with a car park for overnight guests.
