The basic rule
Getting there is easy; getting back is not. Public transport runs through the evening, but after 2 or 3am you are left with taxis, which are scarce on New Year's Eve and charge the night rate, and pre-booked private hire cars (known in Italy as NCC). If your party ends at 4am, decide how you are getting home before you go out: a designated driver who stays sober, a pre-booked car or a hotel room.
Metro and night buses
In recent years ATAC, Rome's public transport company, has extended metro hours on New Year's Eve and run its night bus lines; the timetable for 31 December 2026 is published in December and we will add it here. The metro gets you easily to Termini and Cavour (DoubleTree Rome Monti, Palazzo Brancaccio), to Circo Massimo (Boscolo), to Flaminio (Casina Valadier, and tram 2 for the Stadio Olimpico and Eden) and to EUR on line B (EUR Palasport, EUR Fermi, Laurentina) for Casa 900, Room 26, Salone delle Colonne, Exe Roma and Mercure Roma West.
Taxis and private hire cars
You can call a taxi through the apps or the taxi cooperatives' phone numbers, but between midnight and 4am the waits are long all over the city. The reliable alternative is a private hire car (NCC) booked in advance, especially for the venues outside Rome: Casale Traiano and Castello Miramare in Fiumicino and Maccarese, and Residenza Castelverde, Villa Grant and Casale 4.5 to the south, where no public transport runs at night.
The ZTL and road closures
The historic centre's ZTL (a restricted traffic zone that only authorised vehicles may enter) stays in force on New Year's Eve, and if there is a concert at the Circus Maximus the streets around Via dei Cerchi, Piazza Venezia and Piazza del Popolo are closed to traffic from the afternoon. If your party is in the City Centre, go by metro or taxi; the hotels have an arrangement with a car park for overnight guests.
Parking, area by area
In EUR the public car parks at Piazza Marconi and Viale America serve Casa 900, Room 26 and Salone delle Colonne; Exe and the Mercure have their own on-site parking. In Rome North, Profumo, Qvinto, Villa Cassia and Eden have parking on site or nearby, outside the ZTL. Outside Rome, every villa and country estate has parking within its grounds. On each venue page, the "Useful information" section mentions parking whenever the venue has confirmed it.
Practical tips
Set off early: by 8.30pm the roads towards EUR and the Via Cassia are already busy. Keep your QR-code voucher on your phone, and keep the battery charged. At the villas outside Rome, ask whether they run a shuttle or have a deal with a private hire company. Every party is listed on the what to do on New Year's Eve in Rome page.
