New Year’s Eve at the Palazzo dei Congressi in EUR

The Palazzo dei Congressi is one of the defining buildings of EUR: Adalberto Libera designed it for the district planned for the 1942 Universal Exhibition, and today it hosts trade fairs, conferences and large evening events. From outside you recognise it by its white travertine volume, its colonnaded portico and the flight of steps onto Piazza John Kennedy; inside, the best-known space is the great vaulted hall, very tall and free of columns, suited to large audiences.

Where it is and how to get there

The entrance is at Piazza John Fitzgerald Kennedy 1, in the heart of EUR, close to Piazza Marconi and the Museo delle Civiltà. By public transport, take metro line B: the EUR Fermi and EUR Magliana stops are both a few minutes’ walk away. By car, head for via Cristoforo Colombo, with on-street parking in the surrounding streets subject to availability.

What kind of night to expect

The palazzo is not a venue open all year round: it works as a container, and each event brings its own set-up. At the New Year’s Eve events held here in the past, the hall became a huge dance floor, with a concert-grade sound system, a central DJ booth and table areas along the sides, and an electronic music line-up led by international techno DJs. So it is a night for dancing rather than dining, with plenty of standing room.
