Opened in 1965, the Piper is Rome's longest-running dance club and still one of the few in the city with a sound system designed for both live concerts and club music. For 31 December the house brings out the format it is best known for: a buffet, the stage lit up early and a party that keeps going until morning.
What sets it apart from many Roman clubs is what happens after midnight: from the toast onwards the bar is open and unlimited, alcohol included, and it comes with every package, both the buffets and the entry-only tickets.
Via Tagliamento 9 is in the Trieste district, on the edge of Parioli and a short walk from Corso Trieste and Piazza Fiume. Metro line B stops at Bologna and Policlinico, each about fifteen minutes' walk away, and several bus and tram lines serve the area. By car, parking is on the street, and on the night of the 31st expect a walk: arrive early or take a taxi.
The programme at the last edition: welcome at 20:30, grand buffet and free-flowing beer from 21:00, live music from 22:30, countdown at 23:45 and toast at midnight. From 00:01 the full open bar starts, with a house and commercial DJ set; at 1am comes cotechino e lenticchie (pork sausage with lentils, the Italian New Year dish for good luck), and the night closes at 5am. Capacity is limited, the event is over-18s only and entry is by pre-purchased voucher only.
Prices at the last edition: Balconata grand buffet €130 per person with a balcony table all night, Armand Gold grand buffet €120 with a table in the VIP area, Regular grand buffet €90 with no assigned table, VIP table from 00:15 at €130 per person with the whole amount converted into bottles, party entry at 22:30 for €75 and entry from 00:15 for €60. The open bar is included in every package. Groups of fewer than ten may share a table. 2027 prices are being updated.
This is New Year's Eve for those who want to dance all night and put the open bar ahead of a served dinner: the buffet is the quick part of the evening, the concert and DJ set are the long part. It is not suitable for families with children, as entry is over-18s only, and if you want a seated New Year's Eve dinner with a served menu, other venues will suit you better.
